Mindfulness is a powerful tool that can be applied to any current problem and will be of lifelong use. To be able to see what is arising in our mind, body and emotions requires the ability to be still and to focus internally. This is a skill that can be taught systematically. When we develop the ability to be observant, we have much more control over how we choose to respond to a tense body, an overly reactive emotional response, or habituated negative thinking about ourselves or our lives. New choices more consistent with one’s values and intentions become possible. As skills develop, often greater self compassion is felt, and this translates into better relationships with ourselves and others, less worry and anxiety, and a more positive outlook.
